The School of Rock Engineering (Anza the Graduate) is an online institution established in 2019 by Anza Oriel Ndzimeni, widely recognized as Anza the Geologist in the fields of mining and exploration geology. The school is dedicated to shaping young graduates into competent rock engineers by guiding them through the Strata Control Officer syllabus applicable to both hard rock and coal mining environments. Through Anza's engaging narrative, learners are introduced to essential concepts such as rock mass behavior, ground support design, mining methods, pillar design, and geotechnical hazard identification. By following Anza's journey and problem-solving strategies, students gain a practical understanding of how geotechnical and rock mechanics principles are applied in real-world surface and underground mining scenarios. Beyond being an educator, Anza inspires the next generation of geoscientists aiming to excel in the mining industry.
At the School of Rock Engineering, we value excellence, practical learning, and empowerment. Our mission is to equip graduates with real-world skills, confidence, and knowledge to thrive in the geotechnical and mining industries.
Structured lessons focused on hard rock and coal mining to prepare students for Chamber of Mines exams.
We offer a Strata Control Practical Training Course for candidates who have successfully completed the Strata Control Theory component, aimed at preparing them for the SANIRE Strata Control Practical Examination. In addition, we periodically conduct opencast mine visits with graduates to provide hands-on rock engineering exposure in opencast mining environments, bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical field experience.
We offer near-surface geotechnical investigation and dolomite stability investigation training for students employed by Afrika Earth Projects, as well as voluntary graduates, providing practical field exposure and hands-on experience.
We offer online Strata Control Officer classes for both Coal and Metalliferous mines, designed to prepare candidates for the Chamber of Mines Strata Control (COMSCO) examinations. Classes run from March to April for the May COMSCO exams and from August to September for the October COMSCO exams. Practical coaching in rock mechanics and strata control tailored to industry requirements.
The School of Rock Engineering partners with Afrika Earth Projects to provide rock engineering, near-surface geotechnical, dolomite stability assessment, geophysical and mining exploration services to clients across Africa.
